Dear Friends,

Unfortunately for the last few years I have been unable to take part personally in the International Workshops and it was only thanks to the wonders of technology that I was able to talk and listen to you from afar. This year, however, with the help of the Almighty I hope to be able to travel to Cluj, Romania, for the Feuerstein Institute's 31st International Workshops and meet with you personally. I plan to give the traditional lectures on the theories of Structural Cognitive Modifiability and Mediated Learning Experience.

In addition we will be conducting a world premiere on a new technique which I have developed called 'Soliloquy'. The technique is based, of course, on the Mediated Learning Experience and its aim is to advance the speech of children and adults with communication and language disorders. It is an innovative system which I hope will bring about a change in a great many people who suffer from the said difficulties. I will teach the 'Soliloquy' in conjunction with my colleague Prof. L.H. Falik and with Mrs. Krisztina Bohacs on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, as part of the MLE for clinicians course given by my son, Rabbi Rafi Feuerstein and his colleagues.

It will give me great pleasure to meet you personally during the Workshops and engage in an exchange of ideas and opinions. Today, more than ever, it is essential to intensify the process which I myself began fifty years ago.

Looking forward to seeing you.

Sincerely,

Prof. Reuven Feuerstein

Course Mediated Learning Experience for Clinicians and Inclusive Education

I would like to tender to you a personal invitation to take part in our course on the clinical applications of Mediated Learning Experience (MLE). This year I will be giving the course together with Mrs. Haya Ginton and other staff members and it will cover different aspects of the application of the principles of MLE in clinical cases. One of the major topics focused on this year will be mainstreaming.

I will discuss the philosophy of mainstreaming as derived from the Feuerstein theories, the goals of mainstreaming, the role of the teacher's aide, of the school principal, of the parents and of course, of the students themselves. Mrs. Ginton will dwell on the issue of dynamic assessment in preparation for mainstreaming. We will examine the questions of which parameters should be used to determine whether the child is suitable for mainstreaming, the type of mainstreaming needed by the child, and how the child should be prepared for mainstreaming, and we will attempt to define the different areas in which the child must be prepared and ways of doing this. There will also be a presentation of case studies.

Amongst other topics we will address the matter of 'mediational situations' – an issue which has not received enough attention in our training courses due to lack of time, but which is certainly a generally important issue and particularly crucial to the clinical aspect of mainstreaming.

Mrs.Ginton is an experienced occupational therapist who has been working at the Feuerstein Institute for many years. Today she heads the department for dynamic assessment for young children. Also on the team are other eminent professionals including Dr. Jo Lebeer with whom you are certainly acquainted. Dr. Lebeer is intensely involved in the issue of mainstreaming.

I would like to stress that the seminar is equally intended for people who took it last year as this year it addresses completely different issues. We intend to conduct the seminar interactively allowing for active participation from the participants who will undoubtedly contribute greatly with the experience and knowledge that they have accumulated. We hope that the seminar will give rise to a study and work group coordinated by Mrs. Ginton who will pursue the group's activities via the Internet during the coming year.

Looking forward to seeing you,
Sincerely
Rabbi Rafi Feuerstein
